THE DIGITAL AGE IS HERE & COMPANIES LIKE ARTIST PR CAN HELP

Back in the day everyone ran to the record store to grab the latest copy of their copy of the latest Beatles or Led Zeppelin vinyl record. Record companies and bands in general made millions of dollars on the span of just a few weeks mainly because everyone got in line to get their own copy.

To say the least times have changed. Since the invention of the Home PC, the Internet and yes things like the I-POD revenue from vinyl records and CD sales are a thing of the past. File Sharing Technology was a game changer. The Digital Frontier is here.

10 years ago iTunes was 1 year old and the recording revenues in the US were double what they are now.  Obviously the hardest hit were CD sales which went from over $14 Billion in 2003 down to less than $2.5 Billion in 2013.  Now digital revenue makes up more than half of all music sales, but even iTunes saw a decline in digital music sales for the first time in 2013.  The reason? Fans are taking their ears and money to steaming services like Pandora and Spotify. This means the average Indie artist will never be able to make a living from just selling his/her music.  Artists have to be creative and find different ways to give value to their fans.  Some common examples of diversifying income streams are merchandise, licensing, gigs, touring, and teaching. Below are just some of the digital outlets I am talking about. Is your music on these?
