Limberlost “Beautiful Scars” (LP)

Northwest based, Limberlost, find their feats on the new full-length album entitled: Beautiful Scars, and it’s a powder keg full of ultrasonic gin and tonic, pulling no punches and leaving its mark on the hearts of their fans who will be surprised by what they hear to say the least as this what I’d consider to be the best album by an unsigned band of the year.

But why bother the labels of the past as we know them, when they make their own gargantuan footprints as it is on this fire breathing magnum opus, with the pre-dated single, “Alien” premiering May 9th, before the album hits the streets June 13th, as it guarantees to rock the universe from the planet clear to outer space and back with its thought provoking concept. The running order of these hot tracks only goes to serve up its efforts to do so, with one following the other like a well told story you can’t forget once you hear.

After thankfully being an advanced copy, I can’t say a negative thing about this head spinning piece of work, as it proceeds to blow doors from top to bottom off any house. It makes you want to know more about this band, managed by the Grammy nominated multi-platinum drummer, Paul Crosby. This award-winning group have really outdone themselves, co-written by core members Brittany Lauren Smith, and drummer Mike Burt. And they’ve not only added some new wrinkles in the songwriting department, but they also bring new members in tow, featuring Sammie Gorham and Steve Unger of Metal Church and son Devin Unger to help bring it to their live audience.

Nobody out there’s doing anything quite like it regardless of what’s been going around over the last few years. The single must be heard in all its glory, before the rest crushes your ears’ cartilage to the bone and rings your eardrums out with its mesmerizing hodge podge tunes. Get out the headphones, music being made for them or not, because you’ll want to hear every pin drop through your heads, as the following tracks play as one.

It kicks fully into gear as the second track, ”Playing Games” subsequently bombards the senses with sassy vocals backed by sophisticated modern pop leanings, and the rest balances between hard and heavy emotional based storytelling rock. This thing is simply far out of sight and measurably above most indie rock band, with ”Buried” following, and the next track ”Alone” taking you by the ear and dragging your heart around by the heels. I can’t put it any other way, as it stays with you every second of the way, with an almost AOR essence about it, if that isn’t going too far to categorically describe it. Check out tracks like the peaker‘s of the speakers,”Let Me Go” and the ever raging, ”The Me I Am Afraid Of” before ”Man On The Run” (about the whistleblower for the Ruja Ignatova case), blisters your soul, and ”Velvet & Venom” syncs with ”Blood & Bone” like they were all recorded in one marvelous take and the final track ”Beautiful Scars“ seals the door shut.
