Montana Jacobowitz

How would you classify your music?

would classify my music as very versatile between Indie, Pop, Rap, Latino, R&B, and Soul.

Who are some of your top 5 musical influences?

Alicia Keys, Alessa Cara, Arlissa, Andra Day, and Emeli Sandé.

What do you want fans to take from your music?

I want fans to take the emotion and stories that are behind my music and be able to relate with it. For people that are down, I want it to cheer them up. For people that might need a moment to think about life, then I want them to consider that my music is helping them consider moments and things in life.

How’s the music scene in your locale?

I currently live in Rhode Island, which is the smallest state in the United States. It’s right between Massachusetts and Connecticut. I wouldn’t say it’s really big on the music scene really, yes we have had a couple singers that appeared on The Voice, but not much for music opportunities. Most of the time when I do performances, they take place in either New York and Los Angeles because there’s so many performance and music opportunities in both locations for music artists.

What is the best concert you have been to? What do you like most about playing live?

I haven’t been to many concerts. But this summer I was planning on going to a couple concerts, but they have currently been cancelled or postponed. As of right now, I would have to say one time during Christmas time when I was about 9 years old. I won tickets from my local radio station to go to a Trans-Siberian Orchestra concert. For my first concert, it was amazing. I’m also a musician and I play instruments, so that’s what attracted my attention most during the concert. What I truly love most about playing live is that my fans get a chance to hear me live, rather than actually seeing me perform on TV, Instagram, live streams, etc. I just get the best feeling from being on stage and it gives me the opportunity to connect with my fans and other artists.

Is there a song on your latest CD release here that stands out as your personal favorite, and why?

That’s a hard question. Out of all three of my recent singles, I would have to say Let Me In. The inspiration for that song actually came from someone very special in my life and a previous relationship experience. That special person in my brother, Arizona, he’s autistic. He was the one that truly inspired me to write the song. During Arizona’s early years, the most difficult challenge for my family was identifying what he wanted, his needs, and assisting him in expressing his needs. For example, Arizona’s face might show that he’s happy, but he may be sad inside. My song asks Arizona to let me into his world and not to be afraid. The second story is shown in the music video about a boy that I liked who ended the relationship way too soon and never told me why. I created a scenario around why he walked away from our relationship without telling me a reason.

How have you evolved as an artist over the last year?

I would have to say that I evolved as an artist over the last year by publicly releasing my songs about what occurred in my life. I have developed my singing range and abilities and expanded as a musician by continuing to learn instruments.

If you could meet, play a gig, co-write a song, have dinner, have a drink with any band or artist (dead or alive) who would it be?

That’s another hard question. I would have to say out of my top musical influences, I would add Etta James. She was one of the first singers my parents had me listen to that truly inspired me. I’m inspired by her life story portrayed in the film and her song, I’d Rather Go Blind Boy.

What’s next for you?

Right now everything is on hold, so it’s a bit hard to predict. I am planning on releasing my fourth single very soon! But definitely hoping to work on an EP soon, a tour, much more travel, music collaborations, and more acting projects.
